Nodal response after 46 Gy of intensity-modulated radiotherapy is associated with human papillomavirus-related oropharyngeal carcinoma
The Laryngoscope Mar 21, 2018
Dronkers EAC, et al. - The impact of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated T1-2 node-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) on nodal response, recurrent disease, and survival in patients treated according to the Rotterdam protocol was analyzed. After 46 Gy of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), HPV-related OPSCCs were related to a complete nodal response. A significantly better overall survival was demonstrated by the patients with full regional control (pN0) following IMRT and subsequent neck dissection, but smoking negatively interacted with this effect.
