No increase in risk of acute myocardial infarction in privately insured adults prescribed proton pump inhibitors vs histamine-2 receptor antagonists (2002–2014)

Landi SN, et al. - In privately insured adults in the United States, the researchers assessed myocardial infarction (MI) risk correlated with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) compared with histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs). They found no evidence that prescription PPIs increased the risk of MI than prescription H2RAs. In view of concerns related to MI risk, physicians and patients should not avoid starting a PPI.
