No difference in mortality between level I and level II trauma centers performing surgical stabilization of rib fracture
American Journal of Surgery Sep 30, 2020
Rockne WY, Grigorian A, Christian A, et al. - Researchers aimed at comparing the risk of mortality for patients undergoing surgical stabilization of rib fracture (SSRF) between Level I (LI) and Level II (LII) Trauma Centers (TCs). From 2010 to 2015, SSRF was performed on 14,046 (7.1%) of 199,020 patients with rib fractures. Increase in SSRF was observed from 1,304 in 2010 to 3,489 in 2015: a geometric mean annual rise of 22%. No significant difference in risk of mortality was noted for patients undergoing SSRF at LI and LII TCs. In addition, an annual growing trend was noted across all centers in SSRF performed both for flail and non-flail segments.
