No causal effects of serum urate levels on the risk of chronic kidney disease: A Mendelian randomization study
PLoS Medicine Feb 10, 2019
Jordan DM, et al. - Researchers estimated the population with Mendelian randomization (MR) to analyze the significance of genetic data to know the causal influence of serum urate (SU) level on the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). They noticed the causal effect of SU on the risk of gout. They did not find any causal effect of SU on neither eGFR level nor CKD risk across all MR analyses. They concluded that lower SU levels would not be likely to elucidate the decreased risk of CKD.
