No association between vitamin D status and risk of Barrett's esophagus or esophageal adenocarcinoma: A Mendelian randomization study

Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Apr 07, 2019

Dong J, et al. - Using a two-sample (summary data) approach, researchers conducted this Mendelian randomization study to determine the relationship between circulating concentrations of 25(OH)D and the risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), as well as Barrett’s esophagus (BE). They used six single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs3755967, rs10741657, rs12785878, rs10745742, rs8018720, and rs17216707) related to circulating concentrations of 25(OH)D as instrumental variables. Data were obtained from 6,167 subjects with BE, 4,112 subjects with EAC, and 17,159 people without control participants. Findings suggested no association of low genetically estimated 25(OH)D concentrations with risk of BE or EAC.
