Nighttime blood pressure measured by home blood pressure monitoring as an independent predictor of cardiovascular events in general practice: The J-HOP Nocturnal Blood Pressure Study
Hypertension Apr 26, 2019
Kario K, et al. - Using data from the Japan Morning Surge–Home Blood Pressure Nocturnal Blood Pressure (BP) Study (n=2,545; participants had a history of or risk factors for cardiovascular disease [CVD]; mean age: 63 years; antihypertensive medication use: 83%), researchers evaluated whether incident CVD could be predicted by nighttime BP obtained using a home BP device—an automated home BP monitoring method developed by authors that measures BP while asleep repeatedly over several days—in general practice patients. This nationwide practice-based study was one of the first and largest investigations to demonstrate the predictive ability of nighttime systolic BP obtained using a home device for incident CVD events, which was independent of in-office and morning in-home systolic BP measurement.
