New molecular biomarkers in differentiated thyroid carcinoma: Impact of miR-146, miR-221 and miR-222 levels in the evolution of the disease
Clinical Endocrinology Mar 22, 2019
Gómez-Pérez AM, et al. - In this study involving 60 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), researchers evaluated the association between circulating mircroRNAs (miR) levels and the development and outcomes of disease, given that miR-146, miR-221 and miR-222 were miRs more frequently associated with these kinds of tumors. Findings revealed that the worst disease progression was associated with male sex and advanced age at diagnosis. The study findings suggested that elevated levels of miR-222 and miR-146 were related to poorer disease outcomes and might have a prognostic value in the management and follow-up of DTC.
