New molecular biomarkers in differentiated thyroid carcinoma: Impact of miR-146, miR-221 and miR-222 levels in the evolution of the disease
Clinical Endocrinology Apr 19, 2019
Gómez-Pérez AM, et al. - By analyzing 60 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), researchers evaluated the association among circulating mircroRNAs (miR) levels and the development and outcomes of DTC. They identified thyroid-stimulating hormones, thyroxine, thyroglobulin, antithyroglobulin and plasma levels of miR-146, miR-221 and miR-222 of participants when they were included in the study. The worst progression was linked to male sex and advanced age at diagnosis. Findings suggested that higher levels of miR-222 and miR-146 might be able to predict prognosis in managing and monitoring DTC, as they are related to worse outcomes.
