Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio predicts the prognosis of stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Cancer Management and Research Sep 14, 2019
Pan XB, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers focused on the prognostic significance of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Participants were cases with stage II (2010 UICC/AJCC staging system) NPC managed between January 2007 and December 2014 (n = 251). They evaluated the link between the NLR and overall survival (OS), locoregional-free survival (LRFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), using multivariable Cox regression analyses. Findings revealed a correlation of NLR with T stage. Poor 5-year OS and LRFS were reported in relation to an NLR ≥ 2.92. Poor 5-year DMFS was observed in relation to an NLR ≥ 2.82. Overall, NLR was identified as an independent prognostic factor in stage II NPC.
