Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is independently associated with inflammatory activity and fibrosis grade in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Aug 14, 2019
Khoury T, Mari A, Nseir W, et al. - In this single-center retrospective study, researchers identified the role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in anticipating histological severity in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This investigation was conducted in EMMS Nazareth Hospital from July 2014 to May 2017. Participants in the study were 91 patients with biopsy-proven fatty liver [average age was 42.13 ± 11.5 (18–74) years]. In patients with NAFLD, NLR displayed a significant independent association with advanced inflammation and fibrosis. It is possible to incorporate this simple laboratory tool into future diagnostic scores.
