Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is associated with survival and sentinel lymph node positivity in invasive cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: A retrospective study

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Oct 29, 2021

Maeda T, Hiura A, Uehara J, et al. - Findings demonstrate usefulness of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as a biomarker in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) as it is not only simple to measure but can also predict prognosis.

  • A single-center retrospective case series to determine the association between the NLR and the disease-specific survival (DSS) and sentinel lymph node (SLN) positivity in cSCC cases.

  • Patients with cSCC who had blood tests before the initiation of treatment were analyzed.

  • Increased NLR was an independent prognostic factor for poor DSS.

  • An elevated NLR was identified as a predictive factor for SLN positivity.
