Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio better than high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in predicting stroke-associated pneumonia in afebrile patients
Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment Dec 11, 2021
Wu T, Zhang H, Tian X, et al. - Researchers examined whether neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is associated with stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) without fever and examined if NLR is superior to high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in predicting SAP.
Assessment of a total of 434 patients with AIS without fever was done.
SAP developed in 18 (4.1%) patients.
Findings suggest an independent association of NLR with an elevated risk of SAP.
Relative to hs-CRP, NLR was significantly linked with SAP occurrence in patients with AIS without fever and had a more effective predictive value for SAP.
