Neutrophil hyperactivation correlates with Alzheimer's disease progression
Annals of Neurology Jan 29, 2018
Dong Y, et al. - This study was performed to characterize human circulating neutrophils at different disease stages in Alzheimer's disease. The authors revealed that the inflammatory properties of circulating neutrophils shifted as the percentage of aged neutrophils expanded in patients with Alzheimer's disease-changes that could play an instrumental role in establishing systemic chronic inflammation. Findings strongly suggested that the neutrophil phenotype could be correlated with the rate of cognitive decline and might thus constitute an innovative and prognostic blood biomarker in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
