Neutrophil extracellular traps in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease
Pathology International Aug 28, 2018
Gottlieb Y, et al. - Authors sought to describe the involvement of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They retrospectively examined biopsies from the small bowel and colon of children at diagnosis of Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC). The average age of the patients included in this trial was 12.2 years (range 5–16). All samples from patients had NETs but these were not seen in the samples from the two controls. In biopsies taken from the small bowel and colon of pediatric patients with IBD, the presence of NETs was demonstrated for the first time in this trial.
