Neutrophil extracellular trap release is associated with antinuclear antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus and anti-phospholipid syndrome
Rheumatology Mar 31, 2018
van der Linden M, et al. - Researchers evaluated the plasma-induced neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) release in relation to clinical and serological parameters in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), SLE + anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) and primary APS. In SLE and APS patients the plasma-induced NET release was increased, with the highest NET release found in patients with SLE (±APS). In SLE and APS, the increased NET release was seen to be related to autoimmunity and inflammation. Therefore, in a subset of patients with SLE and APS, the inhibition of NET release could be of potential benefit.
