Neutrophil-dependent pentraxin-3 and reactive oxygen species production modulate endothelial dysfunction in haemodialysis patients

Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Sep 14, 2017

dell'Oglio MP, et al. - This study examined neutrophil activation and its role in long pentraxin-3 (PTX3) release and oxidative stress generation during haemodialysis (HD). In addition, experts sought to correlate neutrophil PTX3 and oxidant expression with endothelial dysfunction. This study displayed the association of neutrophil overexpression of PTX3 with reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction and endothelial dysfunction. Neutrophil overexpression of PTX3 could represent an emerging marker of vascular damage progression in HD patients.
