Neutrophil CD64, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin in the identification of sepsis in the ICU â Post-test probabilities
Journal of Critical Care Sep 02, 2017
Jamsa J, et al. – C–reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) were tested as discriminators for sepsis patients from non–septic controls. Also, the efficacy of a combination of CRP, PCT, and neutrophil CD64 in improving sepsis detection in the intensive care unit (ICU) was assessed. As a diagnostic tool for sepsis in ICU, neutrophil CD64 expression was found to be superior to PCT and CRP. In addition, positive post–test probability for any combinations of simultaneously analyzed CRP, PCT and CD64 demonstrated improved diagnostic accuracy for sepsis. This approach was found to be potentially beneficial for guiding antibiotic treatment in ICU.
