Neuroticism and anxious attachment as potential vulnerability factors of repeat suicide attempts
Psychiatry Research Apr 04, 2018
Pennel L, et al. - As clinical tools to easily and efficiently screen repeat suicide attempters are lacking, researchers sought to identify individual and interpersonal psychopathological dimensions that could represent a vulnerability to repeat suicide attempts. Compared to first-time attempters, repeaters showed higher neuroticism and anxious attachment. These two parameters could predict 4 times higher risk of repeat suicide-attempt. In combination with 2 other predictors (non-suicidal self-injury history, current psychotropic drugs), the two parameters might constitute an efficient 13-item tool. This tool might assist screening suicide repeaters and referring them to more adapted care.
