Neurologic examination findings associated with small cerebellar volumes after prematurity
Journal of Child Neurology May 27, 2019
Tam EWY, et al. - Researchers characterized the specific impacts of small cerebellar volumes on infant neurology examination in order to help clinicians understand what to expect from small cerebellar volumes after prematurity. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies were conducted in preterm newborns (<32 weeks’ gestational age). Of 119 MRI scanned infants, 109 (92%) had a follow-up at 19.0±1.7 months corrected age. According to this prospective cohort, voxel-based deformation-based morphometry exhibited postural instability related to regions of paravermian. Small cerebellar volume, including truncal tone, reflexes, and postural stability, is linked to specific abnormalities on neurological examination by 18 months.
