Neuroglobin as a novel biomarker for predicting poor outcomes in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
World Neurosurgery May 10, 2018
Cai H, et al. - Given that neuroglobin (Ngb) has a high affinity for oxygen and helps prevent hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, researchers investigated the relationship between neuroglobin (Ngb) levels and clinical outcomes of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) was investigated. They performed measurement of serum Ngb levels in 58 patients with aSAH and 27 controls using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Outcomes revealed that serum Ngb levels on day 2 after aSAH to have a strong association with poor outcomes in aSAH. There suggesting Ngb be a novel biomarker for predicting poor outcomes in aSAH.
