BMJ Open Oct 07, 2019
Melamed N, Asztalos E, Murphy K, et al. - In this population-based study, Ontario, Canada of all live singleton infants born at term (≥ 370/7 weeks gestation) (n = 529,205), experts evaluated the probability of neurodevelopmental problems among term infants exposed to antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) earlier in pregnancy in comparison with non-exposed term infants. Among infants exposed to ACS, in contrast with non-exposed infants, the cumulative rate at 5 years of age, for the primary outcome, was higher. A relationship was found among term infants between exposure to ACS during pregnancy and healthcare utilization during childhood associated with speculated neurocognitive and neurosensory disorders.
