Neurocognitive disorders and sleep in children with primary ciliary dyskinesia
Pediatric Pulmonology Jul 14, 2018
Eyüboglu TS, et al. - Researchers assessed hyperactivity and attention deficiency in patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and examined the association between sleep and hyperactivity and attention deficiency in PCD patients. For this investigation, 15 PCD patients aged 8-18 years and 31 age-matched healthy controls were compared. In PCD patients, ear, nose, and throat examinations and home sleep testing were performed. It was observed that mild obstructive sleep apnea syndrome was seen in most PCD children. In PCD patients, hyperactivity and inattention findings were higher. The study results suggested that sleep disordered breathing assessment should be a routine part of PCD management and these patients should be monitored carefully for hyperactivity and inattention.
