Neurocognitive and educational outcomes in children and adolescents with CKD: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Evidence based | Mar 01, 2018

Chen K, et al. - In children with CKD, global and domain-specific cognition and academic skills were assessed. Additionally, whether or not these outcomes varied with CKD stage was also investigated. In CKD children versus the general population, low-average cognition could be present, with mild deficits observed across academic skills, executive function, and visual and verbal memory. Relative to children with mild-to-moderate stage CKD and transplant recipients, children on dialysis may be at greatest risk, as suggested by limited evidence.
