Neonatal skin care: What should we do? A four-week follow-up randomized controlled trial at Zagazig University Hospitals
International Journal of Dermatology Sep 13, 2017
Amer M, et al. - The neonatal skin care effectiveness was comprehensively analyzed here, for promoting normal skin development and protection of the optimal skin function by avoiding varied neonatal skin disorders which led to skin infection. The vital components of maintaining the skin barrier function and overall health were proper care and good hygiene of the normal mature neonatal skin. This was attained via the following factors which optimized the epidermal barrier integrity: Bathing and using emollient; preventing and managing infections and skin injury; minimizing transepidermal water loss (TEWL); minimizing heat loss and percutaneous absorption of toxins. The baby bath products and baby wipes were safe and did not impact an infant's skin barrier integrity. Hence, the use cleansers, specially designed for baby's skin were recommended, with pH neutral and very mild to avoid irritant dermatitis and allergic dermatitis.
