Neonatal outcome by planned mode of delivery in women with a body mass index of 35 or more: A retrospective cohort study

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Sep 20, 2020

Tzadikevitch‐Geffen K, Melamed N, Aviram A, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study of 8,752 women with a BMI of ≥ 35 kg/m2 who had a singleton birth at 38–42 weeks of gestation, women undergoing a trial of labor were compared with women who underwent a planned primary cesarean section (CS), regarding the neonatal outcomes. During the study period, 8,433 (96.4%) women underwent a trial of labor and 319 (3.6%) underwent a planned CS. Observations revealed comparable neonatal outcomes between planned vaginal delivery and planned CS among women with a BMI of ≥35 kg/m2 at a gestational age of 38–42 weeks, although a failed trial of labor is at risk of adverse neonatal outcome.
