Neonatal morbidity and mortality by mode of delivery in very preterm neonates
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 31, 2021
Zahedi-Spung LD, Raghuraman N, Macones GA, et al. - Researchers investigated if cesarean delivery (CD) is linked with significantly improved neonatal morbidity. In this retrospective cohort study, they assessed all singleton pregnancies delivered at 22.0 – 29.0 weeks gestation between 2010 and 2015 admitted for preterm labor (PTL) or preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), identifying 271 deliveries as eligible for inclusion. Outcomes suggest that in very preterm neonates, CD performed for standard obstetric indications is linked with a reduced risk of a death in the delivery room or within 24 hours of delivery but is not linked with improvement in morbidity or mortality overall.
