Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with or without neoadjuvant radiotherapy compared with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for esophageal cancer
Journal of Thoracic Disease Sep 01, 2018
Zheng Y, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers compared neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) ± neoadjuvant radiotherapy (NAR) with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACR) between June 30, 2015 and October 31, 2016, in 60 consecutive borderline resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. They assessed toxicities, response rates, operative data, complications, length of stay, and overall survival rates among 31 patients in the NAC ± NAR group and 29 in the NACR group. They found that, NAC ± NACR vs NACR offered the same survival benefits, but low post operation complication rate. It might be an option for locally advanced ESCC, in the future. The NACR group was more likely to suffer arrhythmias, pneumonitis, and anastomotic leakage.
