Neoadjuvant chemotherapy for initially unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

British Journal of Surgery Sep 15, 2017

Roy BL, et al. - The efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy was examined for locally advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), in this current study. Findings revealed that patients with locally advanced ICC treated by surgery following neoadjuvant chemotherapy had similar short- and long-term outcomes compared to patients with initially resectable ICC who had surgery alone. Thus, neoadjuvant chemotherapy might serve as an effective first-line treatment for locally advanced ICC, aiding secondary resectability in patients with the initially unresectable disease.
