Negative pressure wound therapy vs conventional wound dressings in treatment of open fractures: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Surgery | Mar 31, 2018
Liu X, et al. - The detailed advantages and disadvantages of the negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in treatment of open fractures in comparison with the conventional wound dressings were determined in this systematic review. A significant reduction in the risk of infection in treatment of open fractures and acceleration of the wound healing process could be achieved with NPWT. As per some evidence, NPWT might help to reduce the severity of the limb injury and therefore provide a chance for avoiding limb amputation. Despite the probable safety of NPWT use in the flap area, practicing caution is recommended.
