Needle-free and needle-based growth hormone therapy in children: A pooled analysis of three long-term observational studies
Hormone Research in Paediatrics Mar 09, 2019
Rohrer TR, et al. - In this investigation, researchers analyzed longitudinal auxological outcome and safety data of growth hormone (GH) treatment-naïve patients diagnosed with GH deficiency (GHD) or Turner syndrome (TS) and compared needle-free administration (NF) and needle injection (NI) in a real-life setting. There were 1,595 patients in the safety cohort who received at least one GH dose. The cohort of auxological outcome consisted of 856 treatment-naïve patients with follow-up data ≥12 months. During the first 3 years of treatment, height-SDS and height velocity improved significantly. Real-life data show that, without new safety concerns, treatment with Zomacton improves auxological outcome parameters. In children with growth disorders, NF administration of GH represents a useful alternative to NI.
