The Journal of Infectious Diseases Dec 23, 2020
Izurieta HS, Graham DJ, Jiao Y, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study covering Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) beneficiaries with the aim to determine risk factors for severe COVID-19 outcomes among Medicare beneficiaries during the pandemic’s early phase. Analysis was performed including 25,333,329 elderly non-nursing homes (NH) non-end-stage renal disease (ESRD) beneficiaries, 653,966 elderly NH residents, and 292,302 ESRD patients. Observations revealed the following factors to be strongly linked with the risk of COVID-19 related hospitalization and death among the US elderly: frailty, comorbidities, and race/ethnicity.
