Natural course of patients discontinuing treatment for age-related macular degeneration and factors associated with visual prognosis
Retina Nov 24, 2017
Kim JH, et al. - This trial was formulated in order to gauge the 24-month natural course of visual changes in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients discontinuing treatment regardless of the persistent or recurrent fluid and factors predictive of visual prognosis. In patients discontinuing treatment, there appeared to be a significant deterioration in visual acuity, irrespective of neovascular age-related macular degeneration subtypes. A link was brought to light between the presence of intraretinal fluid with worse visual prognosis. This data strongly cautioned the patients with intraretinal fluid regarding their poor prognosis before they decided to discontinue treatment.
