Nationwide routine-data analysis of sex differences in outcome of acute myocardial infarction
Clinical Cardiology Jun 20, 2018
Freisinger E, et al. - In this routine-data-based analysis of 203,106 nationwide inpatients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) STEMI and NSTEMI, researchers assessed the influence of sex and age on utilization of inpatient healthcare and outcome in these subjects. Using a logistic regression model, they assessed the use of coronary angiography and interventions and their sex-related impact on mortality (within 30 days). In this study, carried out in a real-life setting, increased in-hospital mortality was observed in females; the impact of more unfavorable risk and age distribution accounted for this increased in-hospital mortality. Association of coronary angiography with lower in-hospital mortality was also observed; especially, older females were less frequently treated.
