National trends in primary tracheoesophageal puncture after total laryngectomy
The Laryngoscope Apr 12, 2018
Sethi RKV, et al. - Researchers evaluated the national trends in primary tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) after total laryngectomy (TL) and identify factors associated with its use. Findings suggested an association of primary TEP with earlier voice restoration following TL but it was seen to be infrequently performed. Authors noted that majority of primary TEPs were performed in teaching hospitals, and primary TEP was related to concurrent cricopharyngeal myotomy. As per data, in subjects who had undergone primary TEP, 80.9% had laryngeal cancer, 16.4% had pedicled or free-flap reconstruction at the time of TL, 4.2% underwent partial pharyngectomy, and 48.0% underwent cricopharyngeal myotomy (CPM).
