National pancreatic fistula rates after minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy: A NSQIP analysis
Journal of American College of Surgeons Apr 28, 2019
Panni RZ, et al. - Researchers analyzed 1,096 patients who underwent minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy (MIPD) between 2014 and 2017 in order to ascertain if national MIPD pancreatic fistula rates are decreasing with time. Multivariable analysis revealed that increasing year of operation protects against pancreatic fistula and clinically relevant pancreatic fistula independently. They noted improvement in national MIPD pancreatic fistula rates with time. Better outcomes in patients who are at lower risk of pancreatic fistula seem to be the major contributor to this finding, which could be a reflection of evolving minimally invasive anastomotic techniques.
