Nasopharyngeal vs hypopharyngeal packing during sino-nasal surgeries: Randomised controlled trial
Clinical Otolaryngology Jun 13, 2018
Alfiky MG, et al. - Experts compared the severity of postoperative throat pain between patients who received a nasopharyngeal pack and those who received a hypopharyngeal pack during their sino-nasal surgery. They also evaluated the effectiveness of using a nasopharyngeal pack in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and compared its result with patients who received a hypopharyngeal pack. Findings did not suggest any impact of the location of the throat pack on the early postoperative throat pain. If throat packing is indicated, a safe alternative for the hypopharyngeal pack is the nasopharyngeal pack.
