N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide as a prognostic indicator for 30-day mortality following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A prospective observational study
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Aug 28, 2020
Aarsetøy R, Omland T, Røsjø H, et al. - This prospective observational unicenter study was undertaken to determine whether early-on levels of high sensitivity cardiac troponin-T (hs-cTnT), copeptin and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) have prognostic utility in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). This study involved 114 patients, 37 patients with asystole and 77 patients with ventricular fibrillation as first recorded heart rhythm. Findings revealed that no independent prognostic information post-OHCA was afforded by early-on levels of hs-cTnT, copeptin and NT-proBNP. Experts also noted that prediction was not impacted by removing on-scene non-return of spontaneous circulation patients in the multivariable analysis.
