Myopia and glaucoma progression among patients with juvenile onset open angle glaucoma: A retrospective follow up study
Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics Apr 10, 2021
Gupta S, Singh A, Mahalingam K, et al. - Researchers sought for risk factors linked for glaucoma progression, especially the correlation with myopia, among treated juvenile open angle glaucoma (JOAG) patients. In this retrospective study, the eyes of JOAG patients with at least 5‐years of follow up were analyzed for glaucomatous progression. Among 74 eyes (37 individuals), 11 eyes (14.9%) of 8 patients showed glaucoma progression, with a median time to progression of 7.4 years (range 5–15.5 years). Observations revealed a greater baseline myopic refraction and a faster myopia development over time among JOAG progressors. In JOAG eyes, myopia development could be an indicator of glaucoma progression, and hence more rigorous follow up should be performed in progressing myopic (≤−1 D) JOAG patients.
