Myomectomy during pregnancy: A systematic review
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Aug 27, 2020
Spyropoulou K, Kosmas I, Tsakiridis I, et al. - As 2-10% of pregnant women are affected with uterine fibroids and reports of myomectomy in symptomatic cases that did not respond to conservative management have been identified, researchers sought to report on outcomes and associated risks of this procedure via assessing the published literature on this subject. PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and the Cochrane Library yielded 54 relevant articles, including 97 patients. As per data gained, myomectomy during pregnancy seems to be a safe procedure in patients of symptomatic uterine fibroids not responding to conservative management and hence, consideration could be given to this procedure, following appropriate counselling regarding the associated risks.
