Ellenberger C, et al. - In moderate- to high-risk patients undergoing on-pump heart surgery, the effect of glucose–insulin–potassium (GIK) to enhance myocardial protection was evaluated herein. Reduced postcardiotomy ventricular dysfunction and improved clinical outcome were reported in these patients as a result of GIK pretreatment.
