Musculoskeletal ultrasound in systemic lupus erythematosus: Systematic literature review by the lupus task force of the OMERACT Ultrasound Working Group
The Journal of Rheumatology Oct 06, 2019
Wong PC, Lee G, Sedie AD, et al. - A systematic literature search of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library was done in order to recognize and amalgamate the best available evidence on the application of musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound (US) in individuals with SLE and to display the measurement properties of US in various elementary lesions and pathologies. Of the 143 recognized articles, 15 were involved. All studies had to deal with a face and content validity, and feasibility concerning the measurement properties of the US in various elementary lesions and pathologies. Most studies attained construct validity. Regarding the authenticity of image reading, one study (1/15) evaluated both intraobserver and interobserver security. For image acquisition, four studies (4/15) assessed interobserver reliability and none had estimated intraobserver reliability. Criterion validity was evaluated in one study (1/15). In any of the studies, responsiveness was not acknowledged. In conclusion, this literature review exhibits the necessity for additional research and verification work for the MSK manifestations in individuals with SLE, to describe the involvement of US as an outcome measurement instrument.
