Muscle mass depletion associated with poor outcome of sepsis in the Emergency Department
Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism May 15, 2018
Lee Y, et al. - In this retrospective observational study conducted in an Emergency Department during a 9-year period, researchers tested the hypothesis that muscle mass depletion is associated with poor outcome in sepsis. They reviewed medical records of 627 patients and used univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to assess the association of scarcopenia on the outcome of sepsis. Using abdomen CT scans, the presence of muscle mass depletion was examined. They found an association between muscle mass depletion, as evaluated by CT scan, and poor outcome of sepsis patients.
