Multivessel occlusion in patients subjected to thrombectomy: Prevalence, associated factors, and clinical implications
Stroke Jun 04, 2018
Kaesmacher J, et al. - In patients undergoing endovascular stroke treatment, the researchers evaluated the incidence of multivessel occlusion (MVO), associated factors, and clinical relevance. From a prospective registry, image data of consecutive endovascular candidates (n=720) with direct access to angiography were extracted. It was noted that every tenth patient subjected to angiography for endovascular stroke treatment experienced MVO and only half were prospectively identified on preinterventional diagnostic imaging. They found that patients with MVO had higher baseline systolic blood pressure and were less often taking statins. Findings revealed that occurrence of MVO impacted treatment decisions, had a negative effect on endovascular treatment success, and predicted worse clinical outcome.
