Multiple factors in the prediction of risk of recurrent vitreous haemorrhage after sutureless vitrectomy for non-clearing vitreous haemorrhage in patients with diabetic retinopathy

BMC Ophthalmology Jul 22, 2020

Ding Y, Yao B, Hang H, et al. - Using a retrospective consecutive case series design, researchers sought to explore multiple factors in the prediction of risk of postoperative recurrent vitreous haemorrhage (RVH) for non-clearing vitreous haemorrhage in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) who had sutureless vitrectomy with 23- (23G) or 25-gauge (25G) narrow-gauge systems. Between June 2017 and October 2019, DR patients who had sutureless vitrectomy for non-clearing vitreous haemorrhage were registered. In total, 167 patients (167 eyes) were recruited. Data reported that the incidence and severity of RVH were 25.7 and 4.3%, respectively, in Group 23G and 21.6 and 5.2%, respectively, in Group 25G. The 23 G sutureless vitrectomy approach was therefore as safe as the 25 G sutureless vitrectomy approach to the treatment of vitreous haemorrhage in patients with DR. The risk factors for postoperative RVH in sutureless vitrectomy were younger age, shorter duration of diabetes, and higher Cr levels.
