Multimorbidity in patients with chronic migraine and medication overuse headache
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica Aug 23, 2018
D'Amico D, et al. - Researchers evaluated the rate and influence of multimorbidity in a sample of patients with chronic migraine (CM) attending a structured withdrawal for coexisting medication overuse headache (MOH). Patients with multimorbidity showed higher frequency of headaches, were older, had lower education, lower employment rates, higher disability, and lower QoL. These patients showed a higher tendency to overuse opioids/barbiturates and more frequently attended ER, relapse into CM, and undergo another withdrawal by 12 months after withdrawal. Recognizing multimorbidity among patients with CM-MOH is an important step in improving their management.
