Multimorbidity in axial spondyloarthropathy and its association with disease outcomes: Results from the ankylosing spondylitis registry of Ireland cohort
The Journal of Rheumatology Feb 13, 2020
Fitzgerald G, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence of multimorbidity in axial spondyloarthropathy (axSpA) and evaluate its relationship with disease outcome measures. A cross-sectional study was performed within the Ankylosing Spondylitis Registry of Ireland cohort. Researchers included a sum of 734 individuals from 12 centers: 77% male, mean (SD) age 45 (12) years. Multimorbidity was recognized as the appearance of at least 1 physician-diagnosed chronic condition (excluding extraarticular manifestations) in addition to axSpA. They conducted adjusted multiple regression to examine the relationship between multimorbidity and disease outcomes. The evidence suggested that in axSpA, multimorbidity is prevalent and is correlated with more severe disease.
