Multimodality imaging evaluation before transcatheter aortic valve implantation: Incidence of contrast medium-induced acute kidney injury, risk factors and prognosis
Clinical Radiology Jan 17, 2018
Schneider C, et al. - The authors aimed to assess the incidence, risk factors, and prognostic implications of contrast medium-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) evaluation. They noticed that pre-procedural imaging, and not only the TAVI procedure itself, carried a risk for CI-AKI, and therefore, also a higher mortality in TAVI candidates, especially in those with impaired renal function and when high volumes of iodinated contrast media (ICM) are used. When selecting patients for TAVI and before starting pre-procedural imaging, this should be taken into account.
