Multimodal nonopioid pain protocol provides equivalent pain vs opioid control following meniscus surgery: A prospective randomized controlled trial
Arthroscopy Mar 19, 2021
Jildeh TR, Okoroha KR, Kuhlmann N, et al. - A nonopioid pain regimen was assessed for its effectiveness in controlling postoperative pain as compared with a traditional opioid pain control following primary meniscectomy or meniscal repair. Researchers conducted a prospective randomized controlled trial including a total of 61 patients undergoing primary meniscectomy or meniscal repair with 30 randomized to the opioid regimen, and 31 randomized to the non-opioid regimen. Outcomes revealed equivalent pain control and patient outcomes, along with having an equivalent side effect profile, following primary meniscus surgery in correlation with multimodal nonopioid pain protocol. All patients were satisfied with their pain management with no necessity for emergency opioid analgesia.
