Multimodal analgesia in outpatient head and neck surgery: A feasibility and safety study
JAMA OtolaryngologyâHead & Neck Surgery Oct 25, 2017
Oltman J, et al. - The purpose of this trial was to investigate the feasibility and safety of a multimodal analgesia protocol for outpatient head and neck surgical procedures. Furthermore, it determined the correlation of the multimodal analgesia protocol with postoperative pain perception scores and patient satisfaction. This protocol was discovered to be feasible and safe in patients undergoing outpatient head and neck surgery. It could lower the requirement of narcotic use. It was related to low pain perception scores, favorable Overall Benefit of Analgesia Score (OBAS), and overall satisfaction scores. The role of multimodal analgesia warranted further exploration through comparative effectiveness assessment vs conventional pain management strategies.
