Multimodal analgesia decreases opioid consumption after shoulder arthroplasty: A prospective cohort study
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Jan 14, 2018
McLaughlin DC, et al. - The impact of perioperative multimodal analgesia regimen, compared with standard analgesia regimen, on postoperative pain scores, opioid consumption, length of stay, and readmission rates was assessed among patients who underwent shoulder arthroplasty. Findings demonstrated that use of perioperative multimodal analgesia regimen resulted in decreased postoperative pain and opioid consumption and shorter hospital stays. Furthermore, safety as well as efficacy of this regimen was reflected by no associated increase observed in short-term complications or unplanned readmissions.
